Famous Witches: Watanuki Kimihiro + HAPPY 1st YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

Salutations, Witches and Mundanes!

Today is a special day, April 1st! Not only is it April Fools Day, but also the ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of University Witch! Yes, this blog started last year on April 1st, and a lot has happened since then. The blog has definitely grown, and I want to give a shout-out to every single person who came and read any of the articles, tried any of the spellcrafting projects, and those who spread the love! But enough about sappiness.

This particular Famous Witches: Real and Fictional course is dedicated to my favorite little witch, who's birthday also happens to fall on this very day! So, without further delay, lets celebrate our one year anniversary with a little bit of magick!

Introducing, for the ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY EDITION~

Watanuki Kimihiro
Also known as “The Space-Time Witch” or “The Shopkeeper”

So who is Watanuki Kimihiro?
Watanuki Kimihiro is a fictional character, created by CLAMP for the series xxxHolic, which crosses over with Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles. He starts off, presumably, as a normal teenage boy, however hosts a strange attribute: the ability to see spirits. They also happen to follow him around, because his blood smells very good. The series follows his supernatural exploits under the witch Yuuko Ichihara, who owns a shop that can grant any wish. Watanuki makes the wish for the spirits to stop following him, and thus becomes employed under indentured servitude to the witch. With the help of his friends Doumeki (whom repels spirits), Himawari (a girl whom deals out bad luck unintentionally), and the pipefox Mugetsu (a sort of guardian for the young man), Watanuki spends his days outside of school encountering zany supernatural antics. The series also focuses on how he ties in with the characters Princess Sakura and Syaoran.

What makes them special?
Watanuki is an “ordinary boy” who, though magick and strange circumstances, becomes something extraordinary. Throughout the series he begin developing powers that always lay dormant within him, such as being precognitive (the ability to see the definite future, not just what may be), and also is known by otherworldly creatures as being a kind person, as well as a great cook (does that make him a Kitchen Witch, then?). He also has the ability to walk through dreams, and travel the astral plane.

The turning point for Watanuki is that he eventually takes over the wish-granting shop he was once employed under. Soon, his powers grow and he becomes one of the most powerful witches in the universe, spanning dimensions.

Where can I learn more about Watanuki?
You can check out his story in the manga and anime series xxxHolic, but he can also be spotted in the sister series Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, and well as other CLAMP works such as Kobato, Drug & Drop, and Blood-C.

While xxxHolic for the most part can be comedic, it is a suspense-genre show, and there can be some parts in it that can potentially be creepy and also, violent. Be advised, before deciding to watch with children!

Famous Witches: Harry Potter

Welcome to another course at Magick Users University, Famous Witches: Real and Fictional. This course is a great combination of informational and fun, as there are plenty of witches in the real world and of course, in literature, movies, and other media. Some will be familiar, others new, but all interesting. We hope you enjoy!

In celebration of the end of the Harry Potter franchise, and the start of Rowling's newest Harry Potter project, we bring you the title character!

Introducing...!

Harry Potter
The Boy Who Lived

Whether people love him or hate him, there are few whom do not know of him!

+ So who is Harry Potter?
Harry Potter is a character created by the writer J.K Rowling. His adventures in the magical Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, spans over seven books. These books have spawned out eight movies, three other offshoot books (such as Tales of Beetle the Bard and Quidditch Through the Ages), and a variety of other merchandise.

Harry Potter was born a wizard, however lived a rather depressing life with his Aunt, Uncle, and cousin, the Dursleys in a small cupboard under the stairs. However, on his eleventh birthday, he finds out from the half-giant Hagrid that he is actually a wizard due to his parents, and has been waiting the day to go to Hogwarts. Without anything better to do (it seemed legit), Harry goes off with Hagrid in efforts to start life anew. However, turns out his parents were murdered by the evil wizard Voldemort (known as You-Know-Who or He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named), and Harry barely escaped death, and was left with the iconic, lightning-bolt shaped scar on his forehead.

Throughout his days at Hogwarts, Harry makes friends and many foes, ultimately in efforts to finally bring an end of Voldmort's reign of terror and free the wizarding world from its darkest hours. With the looks of his father, but the green eyes of his mother, Harry Potter is a witch—sorry, wizard—whose story and adventures not only changed the world he lived in... but even our world's perception on magick as well.

+ What makes him special?
Harry is one of those “born witches”—wizard, sorry Harry—who is characterized by his bravery, heroics, and sense of justice. He has reached an iconic status, even in the Neopagan world (witches even call non-magick using people Muggles now!).

When Harry Potter first reached popularity, there was much uproar from Christian activist about the nature of the series, depicting the series as something that could potentially corrupt children from the faith, and that it was a blatant display of evil and, of course, witchcraft. However, despite these claims, Harry Potter pressed on in his fight against Voldemort. Really, Harry's moralistic battle between good-an-evil should be what stands out.

Harry is also special in the fact that he fights for what he believes in. Such an act is easier said than done, especially in the face of people whom would kill you for defending your rights. Harry Potter is a young wi...zard, whom we could all potentially look up to.

+ Where can I learn more about Harry Potter?
You can easily learn more about Harry Potter from the internet, reading the books, and of course, the movies for those whom are not book readers. For those whom has already indulged in this, might I suggest Pottermore, which opens up for the public come this October! I have already registered for it early and have done a lot of beta testing for the opening! However, I plan on entering with my University Witch account as soon as the doors open. If you want, you can follow along with me in October, and even join as my friend! My member name is GoldProphecy56!

Famous Witches: Card Captor Sakura

Welcome to the newest course at Magick Users' University, Famous Witches: Real and Fictional. This course is a great combination of informational and fun, as there are plenty of witches in the real world and of course, in literature, movies, and other media. Some will be familiar, others new, but all interesting. We hope you enjoy!

For our first lesson, lets begin with a little “witch” I've loved since I was a kid.

Introducing...!

Card Captor Sakura
Real name Kinomoto Sakura, or Sakura Avalon (English vers.)

+ So who is Card Captor Sakura?
Card Captor Sakura is a fictional witch created by the Japanese manga group, CLAMP. She is an elementary school girl, who thought she was normal until she stumbled upon a book that set loose a bunch of cards called “Clow Cards” into the world, allowing them to wreak havoc using their individual powers. Using a variety of elaborate, gorgeous costumes, along with her wand, Sakura embarks on the journey to collect the Clow Cards and return them to the book before an unknown, ominous disaster befalls the world she lives in.

During this elaborate journey is her best friend, Tomoyo, who films her adventures and is also responsible for her costumes. There is also Syaoran Li, whom accompanies her after a time and becoming the love interest in the series.

+ What makes them special?
Card Captor Sakura is special for the fact that she is a lot like most witches today: a normal girl suddenly exposed to the world of magick. At first, she is unsure about her powers, but in the end becomes a very powerful and influential witch. While the series never really calls her a witch much (perhaps to avoid the negative connotations of the word), its a bit obvious, even with the hints from her costumes. Plus, she has all the witch essentials: a familiar, a magic wand, incantations, and even a symbolic Book of Shadows (the Book of Clow) and even tarot cards (the Clow Cards), which can even be used for divination.

+ Where can I learn more about her?
Card captor Sakura can be found online and in many bookstores in its manga (comic) form, and also has an accompanying animated television series. A note to people not familiar with anime: do yourself a favor and, if you choose to watch the show, watch it in Japanese with the subtitles. The English version has cut out the first seven episodes, along with editing a lot of the story that destroys an otherwise beautiful plot and intriguing story.

+ Supernatural Statistics:
Name: Card Captor Sakura
Other names: Kinomoto Sakura, Sakura Avalon
D.O.B: April 1st
Sign: Aries
Alliance: Good witch
Known for: Becoming the Mistress of the Clow, her gorgeous attire
Familiar: Kero (Keroberus)
Tool of Choice: Magick wand, Clow (Tarot) Cards
